Welcome to Alleghany Arts & Crafts' e-commerce
web site, New River Arts & Crafts, where you can find artistic
works, quality crafts, and home grown agricultural products for
sale. The products offered here are constantly changing so come
back often to check to see what's new. Our purpose is to support,
preserve and celebrate authentic mountain culture through the handmade
products of the New River Valley area.
Alleghany Arts & Crafts is a cooperative store
whose members are artists and crafts people either from Alleghany
County or with ties to the county. Alleghany Arts & Crafts is
located at 36 N. Main St. (next to the Court House) in Sparta, N.
C. and is proud to sponsor this web site. The membership of Alleghany
Arts & Crafts and New River Arts & Crafts are not the same
although there are people who are members of both organizations.
Each organization has its own jury process and membership requirements.

Inside this web site, you'll meet the creators and
the growers - the producers - who craft and grow these wonderful
products from the Northwestern corner of North Carolina. It won't
take you long to learn that each product is unique and has a character
of its own; none of these items were mass produced by machinery
or factories - they were made by local craftsmen who have been blessed
with tremendous creative talent. Therefore, we proudly say... each
product offered for sale was either made by hand or grown or raised
in our neck of the woods.
So wander in our open doors and sit a spell, as
you browse through the wide variety of high quality, one-of-a-kind
products - who knows - you might make a friend or two!

Featured Artist
John Brady
John Brady is a man steeped in history. A woodworking artisan for 30 years, the extraordinary pieces he creates will certainly outlive him, passed on for generations as beloved family heirlooms.
His woodworking is truly "organic." John began crafting full-time after his retirement to satisfy the needs and dreams of friends and family, and the business grew naturally from those beginnings. John is devoted to woodworking and enjoys every step of transforming a a rough piece into a finished work of art. Much of the wood John uses is 75-150 years old, "recycled" from demolished barns and buldings. John prefers the superior tones of aged woods and his distinctive craftsmanship ensures that no two pieces he creates are never alike.
