This web site is made possible by the generous
funding and support of the Northwest Alliance Program for the Rural
Carolinas and the Duke Endowment, the Rural Advancement Foundation
International and the Tobacco Communities Reinvestment Fund, the
North Carolina Rural Economic Development Center, and the US Department
of Agriculture Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program
for the Southern Region.
The New River Arts and Crafts Marketing Initiative
was first conceived by New River Community Partners (NRCP), a grassroots
non-profit organization
founded to oversee and coordinate the implementation of the American
Heritage Rivers Initiative for the New River. In 2001, with the
formation of the Northwest Alliance Program for the Rural Carolinas
(PRC), the idea was made reality. The Northwest Alliance PRC was
formed in order to address the high unemployment rates in the area
and build assets amongst our communities. This faith-based initiative
uses the wide network of churches in our region to promote the talents
and needs of our residents.
In keeping with the grassroots nature of the initiative,
NRCP's role is to provide support and assistance to the local and
regional community. This support takes the form of authoring and
tracking local, state, and federal grants, helping create new partnerships,
developing relationships with state and federal agencies, and other
forms of training and technical assistance.
